Loreto Centre
Loreto Centre provides a programme of extra mural courses in the centre. These have been designed in response to looking at the needs identified to us for Community Education.
Loreto have a number of voluntary counsellors working here so waiting lists are very short for counselling.
We are developing a pre university assess course in conjunction with VEC for September.
Thirty two women from here will be graduating from UCD on the 7th May.
6 of them have done the Certificate in Women's Studies and the other 16 have done the Diploma. Some of these have qualified with First class honours. This is the equivalent of Fetac 7 and 7+.
A seminar was held for them in the centre on Adult Guidance given by the two Guidance counsellors Anne and Maura from Crumlin College.
Another seminar was held in UCD on March 7th to tell them about progression routes for them into Postgraduate/Masters programmes. There was a high level of interest in continuing their studies.
At the end of the month eight women will graduate with certificates in Personal Development. They have every reason to be proud of their exceptionally high level of participation.
We are very happy to be putting on an introduction to Feminist Studies after Easter. We are hoping to offer the Certificate in Women's Studies in September. Any body who is interested in either of these courses should book early as we expect a high level of interest.
We began a course in Spoken Irish in January for the first time and this is being really well attended and enjoyed by all who are taking part.
In response to needs named in the area we are running a course for parents /guardians of children 9 - 12 years of age to help them to enjoy the teenage years with their children.
