DRUGS AWARENESS Campaign 2011
17th October 2011 - 28th November 2011
There has been a significant increase in problematic alcohol use across all communities. In D12 There has been a vast increase of 163% in the number of those that presented with problematic Alcohol use recently.
'672 alcohol-related poisoning deaths were recorded nationally during the period 2004-2008’. (HRB)
This situation prompted us to use the theme of Alcohol for D12 Drugs Awareness Campaign 2011
As part of over a month long set of activities, the following events were organised in Dublin 12 to increase awareness of issues relating to substance use:

‘Are you for Real’ (Play on alcohol) was held at Assumption School, Walkinstown on Monday 17th October at 7.30pm

Local Policing Forum Public Meeting
was held at St Bernadettes Parish Hall, Clogher Road on Monday 24th October from 7pm -9pm
|
A Family Day was held at Scoil Colm, Armagh Rd, Crumlin on Friday 28th October from 2pm-4pm

• Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training (ASIST)
This 2-day training course on skills to assist suicide prevention was held during the Dublin 12 Drugs Awareness Campaign. There has been a huge increase in numbers of people taking their own lives and also people considering suicide as an option, both nationally and locally. People in addiction are very vulnerable to risk of suicide.
Dates: 23rd & 24th October 2011
Venue: Shelton Park Hotel, Kylemore Road, Dublin 12.
