‘Dial-To-Stop-Drug Dealing’ Campaign Launched by Dublin 12 Community Groups
Community Groups of Crumlin, Kimmage, Drimnagh and Walkinstown scourged with drug dealing have launched an innovative local initiative called ‘Dial-To-Stop-Drug Dealing’ to tackle the growing drug problem in the area. Concerned locals from the Dublin 12 area can now pass on any information they may have anonymously by calling the free phone ‘Dial-To-Stop-Drug Dealing’ line on 1800 220 220.
The Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing campaign aims to gather anonymous information about drug dealing in the area. The campaign has been developed as an alternative reporting mechanic for local people who are often reluctant and fearful contacting the Gardaí directly. The free-phone line is managed by professionals from outside the area who will not ask for details such names or trace the call; their sole objective is to gather as much intelligence as possible which will then be passed onto the Gardaí anonymously.
People from the Dublin 12 area may not have witnessed drug dealing first hand but they can still make the call, Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing campaign wants to know what you have seen or have heard. By calling the free phone line 1800 220 220 and giving information, however small or significant, will help the Gardaí to build a case, investigate and take effective action.
Aoife Fitzgerald, Co-ordinator of the Dublin 12 Local Drugs Task Force said, ‘The people who supply dangerous drugs – the big dealers up the line - are devastating our community and families. Neighbourhoods, estates with good, caring, responsible residents are getting a bad name. The Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing initiative is one of the many steps being taken as part of Positively Dublin 12 to tackle the problem. The Dublin 12 Community Partnership along with the Gardaí want to make Dublin 12 a safer place for people to live and go about their business.’
Encouraging locals to use the free phone line, Aoife Fitzgerald said, ‘Information is king, we need as much information as possible to help the Gardaí tackle the problems affecting the area. Posters have been put up all around the Dublin 12 area to encourage people to phone in and report what they see. ’
The launch of the Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing campaign is part of Positively Dublin 12, an initiative being undertaken by the Dublin 12 Local Drugs Task Force (LDTF). Positively Dublin 12 is a month long series of events being organised to highlight the many positive aspects of Dublin 12 and at the same time focus on the various initiatives that are being implemented to address the negative issues. The Dial-To-Stop-Drug-Dealing free phone line has been set up by Community, Statutory and Public Representatives of the area who are committed to working together to make Dublin 12 a safer place to live. |
